Canadian Arctic Citizen Science Development Expedition 2022-2023

Team Name/Location

Hearts in the Ice, Canada/Norway

Beginning in June 2022, Hearts in the Ice will conduct a pilot project in Cambridge Bay and the surrounding communities to shed light on the power of collaboration by training the community on citizen science projects. We will connect outside experts and researchers with the indigenous community in a way that elevates the wisdom and decades of knowledge and voices of the indigenous from the far north, and puts the power back in the hands of those who have served as stewards over the Arctic ecosystem for generations.

As we monitor key climate indicators as determined by/ and in collaboration with the indigenous community, The Hearts in the Ice (HITI)-CB Pilot Project will co-apply Indigenous Knowledge Systems and science as relates to the monitoring of climate change. We will build capacity for youth and others in climate monitoring and related areas to facilitate knowledge transfer between generations and foster cultural continuity.

Join our HITI Wonderment community below to support and follow this and all of our upcoming events and activities!
