Girls’ Scholarship Program: Taman Bacaan Pelangi

Team Name/Location

Nila Tanzil, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia

In order to reduce the drop out rates on girls in Indonesia, Taman Bacaan Pelangi launched the “Girls’ Scholarship Program” on 21 April 2021. Our first target areas are Ende and Nagekeo Regencies which are located on the mainland of Flores, East Nusa Tenggara. The beneficiaries of the Girls’ Scholarship Program are students in 8th or 9th grade of junior high school from underprivileged families who ranked in the top 10 in their class. This scholarship will continue to be awarded until they graduate from senior high school.

After a series of rigorous selection processes, 20 students have been selected as the scholarship recipients. Scholarship payments are made directly to the school, which includes tuition fees for one year, committee fees, book purchases, uniform fees, etc. Our associated project, Rainbow Reading Gardens, will also provide a series of capacity building workshops for the scholarship recipients to improve communication skills, financial literacy skills, digital literacy, and much more.
