Proyecto Vida Mujer

Team Name/Location

Team J, Flamingo, Costa Rica

Our project was created by a non-profit organization called CEPIA to help women in poverty all over Costa Rica by giving them the chance to receive donated IUDs. Through this project these women will learn their values and alternative options that they wouldn’t have without projects like these.

What I like:
One of my passions is that I love to play soccer because it helps me get out of my comfort zone and develop a strong bond with people not only in my school but also outside of school. I can’t recall the first time I played soccer because I was probably just a little girl but I can definitely recall the time in which I knew that this was something I wanted to get better at every day. I think sports are a great way for friendships to sprout and for people to be happy and discover themselves. Another thing I love to do but don’t really show to the public is that I love to read anything from, a historical romance to a science fiction book I always enjoy the little things books bring. Another passion of mine is playing the piano, I learned to play the piano when I was 6 and I was terribly bad at it, throughout the time I’ve been able to be okay at it and sometimes even create music for myself, even though I don’t do that anymore.
What I Do:
Some skills I’ve learned to do well is my ability to communicate with people due to the fact that I like talking, therefore, speaking to other people is not a problem for me, which is a skill I’ve definitely mastered. Another thing I’ve mastered but I’m still working on is soccer tricks because I am able to do a few but I want to perfect them and make a clean trick without worrying about doing it wrong. I’m also a very kind person I want everyone to feel included in the conversation which is a skill I’ve definitely mastered, I want everyone to voice their opinions on certain subjects. Finally, I’m a very straightforward person, something I’ve definitely mastered is being honest because I’m not afraid of calling a person out if I think they’re doing something wrong.
What I Want:
I want to cause a positive impact on my community. I want to be able to give back to the community that has given me so much throughout my 16 years of life. With my project I want to inspire not only girls in my community but also girls around the world to fight for what they believe in, to raise awareness of issues that aren’t spoken about, I want women to be able to voice their opinion on their rights and defend them. I want to build friendships and connections but most important of all I want women’s voices to be heard around the globe.

What I like:
One thing I love to do is spending time at the beach with friends. This is one of my favorite things to do because since I moved to Costa Rica, I am able to take advantage of how close to the beach I live. At the beach I like to pack some food and go with friends because spending time with friends is also something I love to do. I love going to the beach with friends because when I go, I could spend all day there and not even get tired or want to go home. Another thing I love to do is spending time with my family. I love to do this because I know that in two years, I'm going to go to university and I'm not going to be able to spend as much time with them anymore. Also, family is one of the most important things to me, so it's important I get to spend time with them.
What I Do:
One thing I am good at is being kind. I am kind to everyone and I can always make everyone feel included. I also know I have mastered this skill because I have been kind my whole life, and my family always likes bring it up. Another skill I am good at is planning. Almost everything I do in my life has a plan. I like to sometimes write my plans down, but most of the time I just plan in my head. I know I have mastered this skill because planning is such a routine for me, every night before I go to bed I always make a plan for everything I have to do for the next day.
What I Want:
Throughout this project I would love to feel like I have made a difference in my community. Since my project is helping women in the community, at the end I want to feel like I have really made a difference and like the time I spent on my project was worth it. Also, it would be awesome for our project or our impact to spread worldwide and inspire people not only in our community, but all around the globe.
