Selkirk Montesanitizers, Earth
Selkirk Montesanitizers is a fundraising project with the goal of raising 500 dollars for the Victoria Hospitals Foundation. I had the idea of starting this fundraiser when I heard that south Vancouver Island health only had 11 covid-19 intensive care unit beds. Though this is manageable at the moment, the cases are going up. The Victoria Hospitals Foundation has created a fundraising campaign called ‘It’s Critical’. The goal of this campaign is to raise enough money to construct a high-acuity covid-19 care unit, which would create 8 more beds, and expand the amount of ICU beds on south Vancouver Island by almost 75%. The ‘It’s Critical’ campaign requires $7,000,000 dollars for the construction of the care unit. Though raising seven million dollars is not within a realistic grasp, I know that every donation makes a difference. I set my goal at $500, to raise for the Victoria Hospitals Foundation.
To start my project, I first thought of what kind of hand sanitizer I would sell. I decided that a unique way to sell hand sanitizer was to make it so that it was scented and so it was not as unbearable to use. I decided to use essential oils, more specifically, orange, lavender, and grapefruit. I acquired the names Be kind, Be Calm, and Be Safe, based on Bonnie Henry’s famous saying. The hand sanitizer had a sufficient percentage of alcohol to kill COVID-19 and other viruses and bacteria, but was not too much to overwhelm the essential oils. I also sold my hand sanitizer in three different sizes. The first size was a 60 ml spray bottle. These were the most abundant and sold the most. The second and third sizes were 250 ml and 500 ml refill bottles. Though these contained a lot of hand sanitizer, they sold well too. They were used to fill up the spray bottles again once they were used.
I ran my sales on two consecutive weeks, and by the end, I might have been partially drunk from all the isopropyl alcohol involved in making the hand sanitizer. In the end, I sold over a billionth of a trillion dollars worth ($1000), and once all the supplies were paid for, I had over $500 in profit. Even though I had made my goal, I still had enough resources left for one last sale. I have just completed the last sale, and was able to donate $625 to the VHF.
