YOUTH TAKING ACTION

Team Name/Location

Team Youth, Guanacaste, Costa Rica

We are a small non-profit organization focused on the environment, animals and the community. Our main goal is to create an impact in those 3 areas that we mentioned before since they hold a strong power over society by keeping in balance. Community clean-ups, environmental talks and events organized to involve different communities are some of the activities we will be working on to achieve our goal. Our first mission is to help the community of Potrero to teach younger generations the importance of every action we take and how the consequence of it either good or bad will affect our society directly or indirectly. We are aware that organizations have mainly one purpose, therefore since our team has 3 members we wanted to challenge ourselves to create projects that will grow a passion within people making them join our team. In the area of animals and community we would like to plan an event for dogs and cats. Marcela will guide us in the marketing aspect. Stephanie Jerome will guide us in the environmental aspect. Holly Cippa will help us find sponsors, volunteers and donate her time as a photographer. Lineth Matamorros will help us in the animal aspect since she is part of the organisation “Yo seré tu voz Guanacaste” that helps stray animals.

What I like:
I love helping and rescuing animals that need help. I have been doing that since I have memory and its a trait Im really proud of. I also ove reading and different types of literature like poems, novels or comics.
What I Do:
Since my childhood soccer has been a big part of my life and playing the sport became part of it too. Over the years I have grown as a soccer player from playing defense in middle school to forward in now in high school. Along with that, I also enjoy playing musical instruments like piano or ukelele and singing with my friends.
What I Want:
I want my community be more educated in different aspects. Not only learn things they teach at school but rather set new social norms in which respecting the environment and animals wellness is part of the everyday lives of the people in my community.

What I like:
I have a strong passion for the environment. Ever since I was 7 years old I started being part of projects that reduced pollution in many ways by doing: beach clean ups, building roads for monkeys, reforestation, environmental talks, murals and arts and crafts with recycled plastic. I started to be aware of the impact nature has in humans and viceverse. Because of this, I created an environmental organization called "Green Power" and became a member of Youth Taking Action. I also enjoy music, playing the guitar and singing to be specific. Lastly, it can be mentioned that I love to bake, everytime we celebrate a birthday in my family I make a cake.
What I Do:
I am able to organize an event and I believe it is something I am really good at. Since 2016 (when I created my organization) I have been in charge of plannning and organizing activites to engage my community. Also, running is one of my best skills because I believe that exercise it is essential during adolescense in order to relieve stress and maintain a healthy lifestyle. I love to train for marathons and being consistent has helped me to achieve good results.
What I Want:
I would like to give voice to nature and spread awareness about what we human beings have done but most important how we can improve the situation. Youth Taking Action gives me this opportunity since we work in the environmental, social and animal aspect. I feel like this project will motivate other poeple to take initiative and we will be known by many communities which will lead us to create a positive impact with our positive actions.
