3 days way isn’t that crazy. I am super exited for this trip and it finally hit me today. One thing I want to experience if possible is the rain coming down and then be able to smell it later. Can’t wait guys!
This is funny because last time I was in Guatemala, we were up in the mountains and someone on the trip was a botanist who worked for a perfume company in Paris, like collecting plants for perfume. One afternoon he invited some of us to take a walk after the afternoon storms passed over, and he showed us (and had us smell) like 30 different plants–leaves, fruits, bark, berries, etc– that perfumers use. I didn’t know there could so many amazing smells in such a small jungly space around the village we were staying. Anyway, we won’t have a perfumer with us, but I’m sure we’ll still find some of them sweet sweet smells
Here in Costa Rica where we live it doesn’t rain for months at a time. After that first rain in late April or early May the ground seems to sigh with relief and the small is almost overwhelming. The plants come out of hibernation and start moving again which creates another cacophony of smells. It is something to live through and remember – hope this happens when we are there. Otherwise, just come visit me in early May.
I’m excited for all of it. Rain, sunshine, lots of smells (good and bad) meeting and playing with the kids, going to the Library, meeting Juanita in person, hiking a volcano, eating lots of Guacamole and more. See you all soon!
