#3 Good Health And Well-being

I bet almost everyone remembers their 5th birthday. You remember getting presents, eating cake with your family, and everyone singing “Happy Birthday” to you. Not many people think about this but the truth is 6 million children die around the world before seeing their 5th birthday because of health related issues.I am doing the 3rd SDG from the UN’s SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS. It is Good Health and Well Being. The SDG’s are goals that the UN made to make the world a better place to live in. The first goal is No Poverty. Each goal tries to improve a serious problem effecting our world in horrible ways. These kids should’ve had a doctors office around the corner that could have helped them but they don’t. They don’t have any of this.

Why I wanted to do Good Health and Well Being

When I learned this I knew I wanted to help. I wanted to do this SDG because I realized that so many kids don’t have the opportunities I have. For example, I am able to go to the doctors office for an annual check-up, if I am sick I have the medication I need to make me feel better, and I am not near things that can make me get terrible disease. I want to help kids and adults who din’t have the opportunities I do.

Big Pharma

When we were working on our capstone project we had to narrow our topic down so we could help that one thing. I learned about Big Pharmas. Many people need to get medications that will help them survive. Recently Big Pharmas are increasing their prices by a lot. Some of the really important medications like Leukemia pills and Diabetes pens have had their price increased by more than 70%. This is unfair towards people who really need these medications don’t have them because of the price.

Companies in the Big Pharma

The companies in the Big Pharma are the top pharmaceutical companies. The ones that make the largest profit every year The Big Pharma is made out of the top pharmaceutical companies:

Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, GlaxoSmithKline, Merck & Co, Bayer, Eli Lilly, Boehringer, Ingelheim, Stryker Orthopaedics

Advertising

The Big Pharma spend around 4 billion dollars on advertising not making more medications. Big Pharma spend most of their advertising budget on DIGITAL ADVERTISING. Critics contend that Big Pharma uses manipulative, ubiquitous and expensive advertising to sway lawmakers.

How to help

Anybody can help the world in their own ways. So please if you have any ideas write a comment. Also remember that you can do anything. Some possibilities for me to make a change is open a pop up shop with a smaller pharmacy company, write a letter to our senator about this serious matter, and there are also so many more possibilities. Help people that might not see tomorrow because of the price of a medication. Please write a comment below if you have ideas and please make more people aware of this growing problem.
