#6 Clean Water And Sanitation

Day after day, we enjoy clean, healthy, and yet healthy water. I bet you, you have never thought about other countries having clean water. Well, places like Sub-Saharan Africa and Jamaica have almost no clean water! This is SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) #6, which is Clean Water and Sanitation. This SDG is part of the other Sustainable Development Goals made by the UN (United Nations) and also, the UN expects all of these SDGs to be completed by 2030, so let’s get into it!

Did you know that about 1,800 kids under the age of 5 die every day because of water related diseases? This means that about 1,800 kids under the age of 5 die everyday because of unsafe, or unclean water, and kids are dying because of unsafe of no clean water as you read this passage! Many places don’t even have access to a clean water pump, while we are just chillin’ here with clean water and not even thinking about the problem around the world 😉 Just kidding! Many experts around the world are organizing groups of raising money for clean water and sanitation.

Even with this, there is still a problem. In 2011, 41 countries experienced water stress an increase from 36 countries in 1998! Even worse 40 out of 50 states in the United States will probably have water shortages soon! The good news is that 70% of the world is covered in water. The bad news is that only 3% of that water is fresh water, and 2% of that is frozen in glaciers of ice! That means that only 1% of the world’s water is drinkable! Even worse, That 1% is only available to 5% of the world!

The good news is that there are many solutions to these problems. One, is that to make clean alkaline water (less acidic than tap water.) To make clean alkaline water, all you have to do is to add some lemons to some fresh water, and there- you have clean alkaline water! Another solution to water scarcity we could use around the world is to just add a few pebbles, gravel or rocks to dirty water, it won’t improve the amount of water, but it will clean the water! First, we could send some gravel, pebbles or rocks to people with water scarcity, or no clean water. Then, we could just send lemons to the people that we sent the pebbles, gravel or rocks to, and they could have clean around the world, and they could just put it in some water!

So, now you know the problem with water scarcity, and no clean water. Now tell this problem to your friends or relatives, and tell them to help out with this problem! Still not convinced? Remember, kids under the age of 5 are dying RIGHT THIS INSTINCT because of water scarcity or no clean water.
