Are we alone?

One very big reason that life started on planet Earth is the presence of water in the liquid state on this planet, and the reason water is liquid on planet Earth is because our planet is exactly at the right distance from the Sun. If our planet would have been closer to the sun like mercury the temperature would be too high which would evaporate all of the water on the planet whereas if our planet would be like mars then we would be at a much larger distance away from the Sun that would lead to all the water present on the planet to freeze. Because the majority of ancient Earth was covered with water and because water is an amazing solvent it allowed several chemical reactions to take place in ancient oceans. That led to the formation of amino acids, nucleic acids, plasma membranes and ultimately the formation of a prokaryotic cell. Prokaryotic cells evolved over billions of years to eventually become Eukaryotic cells and the process of evolution gave rise to the huge diversity of organisms that we observe today on earth. Recent advances in telescope Technology has enabled humans to determine that there are many solar systems out there and many of the solar systems contain planets that are revolving around their respective stars. There are also a large number of planets that are at right distance away from their stars where water could exist in the liquid state. Environmental conditions on such planets could be very similar to the environmental conditions that have been on earth over the past 4.5 billion years. So I feel there is a very big chance that our universe is flourishing with life. However when we take into consideration intelligent life that to the extent of human intelligence, it has occurred only once on our planet. Which means in the entire Universe intelligent consciousness would be much less as compared to consciousness in general. To add to that there are great distances between different solar systems leading to Islands of lives distributed in the entire universe. This vast distance may be the very reason why other extraterrestrial intelligent beings have not yet communicated with us. I think we humans should always keep our senses open towards the skies.

    Hey!
I enjoyed reading your response and I liked how you went into explaining how water is one of the main reasons why life on Earth is able to thrive. I also found it interesting how you commented on the fact that water is one of the best solvents there is and having that solvent has allowed the formation of many other things such as amino acids and plasma membranes and so on. However, I think I will have to disagree with you that if there is life on other planets then they will not be as advanced as we are yet because since we do not if there is life or not there is a possibility that they are even more technologically advanced then we are as a human species.
