Canine Tips

Hi everyone! My now 3 month old puppy is not fully trained but I can tell you guys some things he does know.
-He knows how to sit (this is his best trick). I just pushed his butt down first and he got it very quickly!
-I am teaching him “down”. I know how to lure him into a down position but he does not quite know how to do it without me showing him.
-He is good at going in his crate at night!
-He is almost potty trained! He just had an accident maybe 2 days ago but it was the first one in a couple of days.
-When I say “come here” in an exciting voice he usually comes to me.
-I also taught him “touch” where he touches my hand with his nose.

I have some things I follow for him but maybe these can help others too.
-Sometimes I train him with his meals. He did not finish his dry food this morning so I just used the rest for a training session.
-I carry him outside first thing when he is out of his crate in the morning. I also attach a leash to his collar.
-I keep him on a harness or a leash outside so I can see if he is actually pottying.
-I keep him outside every time he wakes up from a nap. If he is awake I try taking him out every hour. If he is sleeping I just wait 3-4 hours. I have been keeping him outside for 15 minutes each time but I will reduce it to 10 minutes now.
-Earlier he was biting a lot of things he was not supposed to so I put him in his playpen with is toys and he just played with those. He whined a couple times but went back to playing. After he stopped whining I let him out, and he wasn’t chewing anymore! I will try this again for sure.
