Charlie P’s BODY SYSTEM MODEL: Respiratory

The Respiratory System Respiration, or breathing, is a body system that is centered in the lungs. This is also called the Gas Exchange Process. The basic process is as follows: 1. Air containing mostly oxygen enters the body through the nose and mouth and fills the lungs 2. The oxygen is moved into the bloodstream where it can be transported throughout the body. 3. Red blood cells drop off good oxygen molecules and pick up carbon dioxide 4. Carbon dioxide is returned to the lungs. It leaves the body when we exhale. Interesting fact: we breathe an average of 18,000-35,000 times per day!
