Hacking Photosynthesis

Bettering photosynthesis is a good strategy for our world today. Today, our population is growing more and more, therefore, it would be harder to feed every single person. With this, we could speed up our food process. We will also benefit from getting more oxygen as our plants produce oxygen. However, rubisco, the process in which plants take oxygen, is a problem because humans will get less oxygen and toxic compounds will also get produced. In the video, they showed us how they deprived tobacco plants out of carbon dioxide in which the plants grew larger on a scale of 40%. Therefore, if they could do this process on plants, then using this on other plants that could feed people would be really a big improvement for our future.

I agree that this new method, it will make it possible to feed and help many other people. This could make it so that we can make food faster and bigger for future generations.

Hi Nicole, I really liked hearing your thoughts on this you brought up some interesting points. Although this process seems like it could have such a great positive impact we definitely have to take into account the amount of oxygen we will be left with as well as figure out how to deal with the toxic compounds produced from these larger crops. I also agree with your last point and how our future really depends on this advancement.

I think that making better use of rubisco by depriving the plants of carbon dioxide will be very useful in the future for feeding the growing population. I like your point on increased oxygen with the increase of plants. Overall I think this process of using rubisco to grow plants will be very beneficial because it makes better use of what processes the plant already goes through.
