Hacking Photosynthesis

Scientists are hacking the most basic parts of nature, plant growth. Plants grow through a process called photosynthesis, essentially converting energy from CO2 into sugar (glucose). Scientists however have found a way to manipulate this natural process that is billions of years old by using selective breeding to find the super recyclers in a group of genetically different traits. The recyclers are shown to be much better and faster at growing plants, showing a 40% increase in biomass in tobacco plants. When we eventually try this on edible plants, we may be able to improve our ecosystem as a whole. We could have less carbon in our atmosphere leading to more oxygen because plants are producing more often and taking away the bad.
