Hacking Photosynthesis

In 40 years the agricultural demand on Earth has doubled as said in the video. While that means that we as humans must discover new ways to produce food there is another side to this coin. While the video states ways that we are adapting to this new era, I am curious about other possible side effects. If we takeover the natural production of food too much then the food we grow and consume will no longer be organic.
