As a highschool student, I have been finding it harder and harder to pay attention to my schoolwork when my brain doesn’t want to learn the information. I have always been a visual learner; it really helps me to recall information when I have a picture in my brain to associate it with. My sister, on the other hand, likes to learn using audio. Therefore, when trying to learn all 50 of the US states, she found a catchy song that recites the 50 states in an interesting way. Therefore, in only a few days, after listening to the song on repeat, she commited the 50 states to memory.
This kind of learning technique is called mnemonic. This technique is one of the most popular when trying to remember something as it attaches a memorable idea to something that you are trying to remember. For example, song association is a mnemonic technique. However, the beauty of this technique is that there are variations of it for each different learning style. Since I am a visual learner, I would use the feature mnemonic technique. This variation is when you associate a feature of something to remember it. For example, if I met someone named Tony who was abnormally tall, I would think of him as Tall Tony to remember him. Other mnemonic techniques include: spelling mnemonics, rhyming mnemonics, note organization mnemonics, alliteration mnemonics, organization mnemonics, and visual mnemonics.
There are many different learning techniques out there to help you retain information. However, I believe that the mnemonic techniques are the way to go because of their inclusive variety of fun ways to strengthen your memory.

Wow, that is so cool that your sister made a song to memorize the 50 states! I really liked how you explained what the mnemonic technique is and gave clear examples. I also use that technique for memorizing the names of things. Good job!

Great Job! It is clear that you put a lot of research into this post. I enjoy learning new concepts using mnemonic devices because as you said above, they associate new concepts with a memorable idea, which increases retention.
