Learning Techniques: Practice, Practice, Practice

One study habit that has stuck with me after many bombed tests and exams is to study consistently before a test. This applies to simply learning a skill such as playing a new instrument or learning a sport. With more practice, traits are developed in a person and they are able to better accomplish that skill. It is also useful to watch videos on other people doing the same skill as you to copy some of the things that they may do to ensure that you are learning the skill accurately and efficiently. The learning technique that consists of practice distributed throughout multiple days is called distributed practice – pretty self explanatory. If passing an exam or test is your issue, then perhaps practice testing will be useful. This also applies for learning how to play a sport and will help a person understand the vocabulary needed to understand how the sport is played. Take basketball for example; A person may not immediately know what a “triple-double” is or a “travel” is. These are basketball terms that a person will have to learn in order to better understand the sport altogether. In conclusion, the learning technique that is most helpful to me is to consistently practice to ensure the knowledge is retained in my mind.

Practice is really important! I agree that someone just starting out something new would not be as good as someone who practiced many times before.

I agree! I often do the same thing when studying.
