As a class, we sorted through our plastic and analyzed the findings! We found that the majority of our plastic trash was type 4 or LDPE (low-density polypropylene). This makes sense, as LDPE is mostly used for flexible products like plastic bags for dry-cleaning, newspapers, bread, frozen foods, fresh produce and garbage, most shrink-wrap and stretch film, coatings for paper milk cartons and disposable beverage cups, thin container lids, squeezable bottles and some toys.

Our collection of plastic garbage around downtown closely mirrors this trend! We find the most LDPE, then PETE, followed by HDPE, PP, PVC, and PS last.
