Did you know, that it is predicted that in the next 100 years all the tropical forests will be chopped down for paper, wood and other wood/paper products. That will be a disaster for the environment and the biodiversity that live there. Luckily there are the SDG’s.
What are the SDG’s
SDG’s are the Sustainable Development Goals. The SDG’s are 17 goals that the United Nations thought of to fight 17 key problems in the world. The goals are 1 No Poverty 2 No Hunger 3 Good Healt and Well being 4 Quality Education 5 Gender Equality 6 Clean Water and Sanitation 7 Affordable and Clean Energy 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure 10 Reduced Inequalities 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities 12 responsible Consumption and Production 13 Climate Change 14 Life Below Water 15 Life On Land 16 Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions 17 Partnership for the Goals. The SDG that I am doing is Life On Land.
Why Life on land is important
Life On Land as an SDG is important because it is trying to conserve forests and wildlife. That mean it is trying to save endangered animals and stop global warming with trees. The trees capture the carbon so it doesn’t go into the atmosphere. The carbon is key to global warming because it captures heat so it can’t go out. That’s why we need the trees. But unfortunately the trees are being cut down just for money. Illegal logging and agricultural expansion are part of the cause. I am trying to do my part by trying to stop the overuse of paper. The overuse of paper is a big contributor to deforestation because lots of people use it without having second thoughts about it. It may seem like a little thing but think about the whole world, about 7 billion people throwing away just one piece of paper each contributing to the paper waste. That is a lot of paper wasted and we don’t even think about it. Making paper is the third largest use of the limited fossil fuel that we have. Even the process of making paper is bad. The Chlorine-based bleaches pollute the air, water and soil. And when paper rots it produces toxins 25 times more toxic then CO2.
The good thing is that some people are trying to stop it. in Africa people have broken the world record for planting 50 million trees in a single day. but even with all out efforts some places cannot be restore back to the way they were. But we must still help and fight deforestation before worst things happen.
