The Role of Cells and Organs in Your Body

As a whole person, a whole being it is automatically known that you as a human are alive. However, the individual components that make up your body are alive as well. Take organs for example, each organ has a specific role in the body. However, the organs also require components from outside organ systems to do their jobs. This doesn’t mean that the organs themselves aren’t alive. Organs are abundant with life, the cells within them are alive, even the bacteria is alive. In the video, it is said that the organoids produced in the lab can contract like real, full organs. Organs are able to complete their job even if not inside the body, they just need the right conditions. Organ systems can maintain homeostasis, one of the main criteria to determine if something is living. Earlier, we learned about organ systems and their makeup, organs to tissues, tissues to cells, etc. These systems are made up of cells and bacteria at the lowest level, which means that they are a part of you as a living human. They are necessary for living. It is known that certain cells can renew themselves and every 7-10 years your body goes under a mass regeneration. This does in fact mean that your body changes. The changes are not incredibly drastic but they do help keep you functioning. The cells are similar enough to not change your body entirely, you still have the same skin but it’s more of a 2.0 version. The renewal of cells can change your behavior and your interests. You can even notice a change in your personality. Personally, I noticed a change when I was 14. I no longer got along with my friends, my humor was different, and I underwent a change in my life where I had to make adjustments. During this change, I got new interests, I switched schools and I had a completely new friend group than I did before. Everyone undergoes changes like these. This shows that just as your whole self is alive, so are the individual components that makeup you.

I agree that organs are alive. I also put that in my response. I like how you explained that the cells within the organ are alive. I also agree that organs made in a lab are alive as well. However, I think that just because your cells regenerate, it doesn’t necessarily mean you get a “new body”. But, I like how you said it is a “2.0 version”. That made your argument very easy to understand.
