The statement claiming that “touching frogs will give you wart!” is actually fairly common. However, this is not the case. From a young age, my mother had told me this same statement, although she might have been joking, my 8-year-old self took this very seriously. It has been a question that has stuck with me for some time. But as it turns out, warts are a type of virus carried through humans, and frogs have never actually given someone warts. This then prompts a bigger question, how did this misconception come to be? Well, I think it is as simple as parents simply not wanting their kids to play with frogs, as they are indeed, sometimes quite dirty.
