How do we create a world where women and girls can thrive?

As I move through the world I'm constantly asking what it will take to change it so that women and girls can be safe, thrive, and contribute their full potential. I'm curious to understand how we got here, what keeps us here, and how to fundamentally change the structures that hold women back. I'm eager to connect with creative and divergent thinkers who are committed to making change by employing a feminist lens and feminist action to build a world where we can all thrive, be healthy, and contribute to a forward movement for humanity.

Determination, Patience, Responsibility, Listening, Learning

I have always felt a sense of responsibility for those around me, and this has led me, for better or worse, to tackle problems that I saw creating injustice, suffering or conflict in my environments. My work in as a public health physician in Africa showed me clearly that we could not move the needle on health, or many other societal and environmental issues, unless we first empowered women. And so that became my focus and passion. Sexism, misogyny and the patriarchy are ancient and ingrained - but my determination keeps me moving. Patience, an ability to listen, a love of learning allow me to maintain balance, move in partnership with others, and create connections, opportunities and community where they had not existed before.

Circles of Women

I receive and give love, inspiration, strength, motivation, courage and joy in places where women gather. I am nourished by working with groups of women to create meaningful change in their lives and the lives of those around them. On a day to day basis this means being around the women's groups that we support in Malawi, working with my incredible team of Coordinators, and building and nurturing circles of Women Together supporters. I'm inspired whenever I find groups of women from different disciplines, professional areas and backgrounds working together to create change - I'm nourished and enriched by hearing different technical and professional perspectives on the same problems, by learning about the experience of being human from different and diverse backgrounds, and by the fire that gets sparked when we see a way to collaborate across disciplines and cultural contexts.
