Update: 2021 Summer Journal - Service
2021 Summer Journal – Service
Reflection:
This summer on August 2nd, Emily, Geyra, Keylor, and I all participated in a beach cleanup in Brasilito. A beach cleanup consists of walking around a beach with bags meant to pick up any plastics or disposables encountered while walking. We had come up with the idea as a form to help the community whilst staying connected as classmates during summer. We all worked together and collaborated very successfully and fluidly. As friends, we were able to perform the whole service while having a good time, making the whole experience much more enjoyable. Once we finished our cleanup and walked around Brasilito, we ended up with around 4 bags filled with trash. Most of the trash consisted of cans, chip wrappers, and many other plastics. We took photos of all of us working together and the process of our cleanup.
Learning Outcome:
LO 5 Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
LO 6 Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
The whole process of the cleanup was made extremely easy due to how enjoyable it was to work with my teammates. We had an amazing time together while dealing with problems consisting of more pressing matters with heavier significance. We were able to provide a service that aided our community while maintaining good relations with one another and cooperating painlessly.
Involvement with CAS:
The beach cleanup was related to my CAS project due to the intent and functions of both projects. The purpose behind the beach cleanup is to aid the community with pollution and litter found on the beach. The Coffee House would intend to help the community though in a different way. The Coffee House will give the community a place to express themselves and their passions. The two service projects, though in distinct ways, both help the community in some way.
