Vacation Activity

This break I was initially planning on staying here in Costa Rica the whole time, but our plans changed. In the end, this was probably a better change for me activity wise. I was able to ski, walk a lot more because I was in a city and even swim. I had originally set a goal for myself for this break to “stay motivated, and workout every day” like many of my friends did the same but throughout the holidays and break we seemed to have lost that motivation to exercise or maybe it was just me. I found it hard to tell myself to set time aside from my day to workout especially when I was staying with my family, so instead, I decided to do activities that included exercise as often as possible.

We started with skiing, for a whole week straight we went up north to Le Massif to ski every day. On our first day, we were all a little nervous considering we haven’t skied in a year and that we were going to big hills that we had never been to before. The conditions were amazing, and quickly we got the hang of it, we skied all day, and at the end of the day, we were exhausted. Right away we all realized how sore we were; we had been using muscles all day that we don’t typically use, and that made us pretty tired. We did this every day for a week, and by the end, we had mastered it again and were having a blast.

Going back to the city meant lots of walking to do, to catch the metro, walk the dogs, eat or anything walking became one of our primary forms of transport. Even though it was winter and freezing, we still walked, and it made us walk faster.

Although I haven’t lived in a city for seven years now and I always think of how much I missed it when I was there all I could think about was home. This made me realize what a different lifestyle it is between what we have here and what I have there. Being raised here has made me realize how lucky we are to have this type of life and activity is part of it. Even though we may not see it every day, we have an opportunity to incorporate exercise into our life a lot easier than in the city. As soon as I got home, I was going to the beach every day, swimming and working out. This made me feel better immediately because I was back into my routine.

In conclusion, this break was filled with lots of activity but it varied and that made me realize how I should start taking advantage of my surroundings at home and use them in my daily activities.
