CAS 5/28

  • Why am I doing this?

First of all, I am doing my newspaper because I have always loved to write, but I find that writing for assignments or school often takes the fun out of it. So, I wanted to give myself and other students the opportunity to write for fun while expressing themselves, and teaching other kids. I think this opportunity will hopefully make more creative, inquisitive, and knowledgeable thinkers.

For my recycling project, I am doing it because I know that I have a large carbon footprint on the earth, with driving a gas car, taking airplanes, and using electricity, and I want to do something to give back to the earth which has given so much to me. I want to reduce my carbon footprint, and others’ at my school and promote a love and drive for sustainable action at La Paz.

Do I want to do this?

Yes! I definitely want to do both projects. First of all, I genuinely enjoy making an impact in the world and I really want to help my community and world. Secondly, after the seniors left, I have had a lot of freetime and helping other people is a really fulfilling and gratifying way to spend my time. I think I am also developing new skills like working collaboratively with others, engaging with issues of global importance, and planning and initiating a new activity which is most definitely helpful for my school and overall life.

  • What do I want to do? Think about next steps after La Paz.

Well, since I am leaving La Paz, there are not too many next steps for me at the school. I really hope people will take over both projects because I do think they are very important. I also want to work on similar projects when I do go back to my old school. Other than that, I think working on this newspaper is inspiring me to possibly take up a journalism career or a career that involves writing. I also want to continue to recycle and care about the environment throughout my entire life.

Explain your motivation using the following metrics.

I definitely started this project through some of my passions such as sustainability and making creative pieces of work to put out in the world, but mostly because I had a commitment to make a change in my community and the world. I wanted to commit to making a change and making my voice heard, and I think that was the leading factor in the CAS projects that I created.

It is my passion (purpose)

Develop relationships

A sense of belonging

Mood

Commitment
