The next project Youth Taking Action hopes to make is a trip to a retirement home in Santa Cruz. We intend to bring donations for the place since we know they don’t get the funds they always need to properly take care of the elders. For these reasons, I have made various announcements as well as my teammates to let all students know that we are receiving donations. The team also made a Facebook announcement to reach a bigger demographic, this being the parents. The challenge started when the retirement home stopped picking up the calls we made. We were trying to figure out how many elders the home has and what type of donations they need. In like manner, one of the parents reached out to us saying he is a dentist and he wants to donate toothbrushes. That also became a challenge since this parent stopped picking up our calls as well. Luckily, we continued to call and we got the toothbrushes he wanted to donate last Thursday 28th of February. I need to start using my communicative skills to keep announcing that we are still looking for donations of canned food, hygiene products or board games in Spanish. I will also need that skill to ask if anyone is interested in joining us to spend some time with the elders as well as dropping off a donation.
