Amanda- Journal Entry August 17 2019

In August 17th of 2019 a castration campaign was held in Huacas for which we helped organize. For us this event started at 7:30am when we arrived earlier to clean the communal hall so it had the proper hygiene for the surgeries. At 8:00am the doors were opened for the public. There, our job was to help veterinarians clean up the dogs after receiving surgery. Then we would cut their nails, cleaned their wounds if they bled, clean their ears and finally we give them honey in their mouth so they could wake up and can be taken back to their owners. This event was intended to help pet owners that have low-income and don't have access to a castration for their pet. Given this reason the cost was between 10,000 colones to 12,000 (depending on the weight of the animal) which is cheaper compared to the normal price that is 45,000 colones. Via this event we were able to operate 95 animals and made me open the eyes of the amount of people who have animals but don't know how to help since they don't have the necessary resources. This has made my IB learner profile skill of caring become one of the reasons why I loved this event so much and wish that I can be able to organize another one.
