Cata 17/11/2020 Challenges were undertaken and new skills were learned.

New challenge: Teach a scholarship student math every tuesday and thursday for one hour. This week I decided to take on a new challenge. I started doing after school tutoring classes to a scholarship student who needed help with math. Her name is Sofia and I am tutoring her every tuesday and thursday at 4:15. The first class was Tuesday the 10th and I just spent time talking to Sofia about the areas that she needs to improve on and what she would like to do on the zoom classes. We went over the multiplication tables and I realized that she needed to practice the table of 7,8 and 9. How will these skills help me in future projects? Some skills that I need for this new challenge that I am taking on are to be organized and time management. I am overloaded with schoolwork and I don't have a lot of free time in my day so spending one hour two times a week will really impact how much time I have left to do my school work and balance it out with my life outside of school. I don't want to make these zoom classes boring so I also think that being creative in how I tutor the student is important because I want them to be able to learn as much as they can and be as helpful as I can be. I have to plan ahead of time for the zoom classes and therefore that also challenges me to manage my time more effectively. I think these skills will help me in the future because I will definitely need to be organized and be a good time manager as I am entering college and I will be going into a hard career. In general these are skills that I need to practice so I am glad I get to put them in practice. How did I feel before I took on the new challenge? I always liked to help people and before Corona happened, I used to give tutoring classes after school to a group of 10 girls. This girl that I am tutoring now was also part of this group so I already know her. I enjoy being helpful to as many individuals as I can because it brings me joy and a sense of achievement, so I was pretty excited to take on this new challenge. Of course I was indecisive to whether or not I would have time to give tutoring classes on top of all the school work I have, but this will also give me a break from the usual things I do. How do I feel after taking on a new challenge? What are the adjectives I would use to describe myself? I felt good with myself after helping Sofia because she is a nice and caring girl and I think that she is capable of achieving many things. However, her parents can't give her the academic support she needs so it makes me happy to know I am making a difference in someone else's life. Hardworking Caring Determined Was I successful at overcoming my challenges? Why or why not? How do I know if I was successful or not? Everyday I am going to look for videos or activities so that I can help Sofia learn the multiplication tables and make zoom classes more fun. I will divide the days with specific objectives so that I can focus on one thing and guarantee that Sofia is learning. My plan for the near future is: Tuesday 10th will be the first zoom call Thursday 12 we will practice the multiplication table for 7. Tuesday 17th we will practice the multiplication table for 8 Thursday 19th multiĆlcation table for 9 Tuesday 24th will be a quiz. I still don't know if I overcame the challenge successfully because it will depend on how well Sofia learns, however, to evaluate my work, I will give her a quiz and I will show her tricks to learning different multiplication tables and I will be able to observe if I have done a good job teaching her or not. If I did a good job in completing this task, I will be able to talk to her teacher and see if Sofia made any progress.
