Cindy – Journal Entry October 11th, 2019.

During october 10th and 11th I was part of a Model of United Nations in the capital of Costa Rica, San José. It usually started at 8:00am and finished around 5:30pm, there I represented the country where I was born, Nicaragua which made me feel really proud and therefore I had the goal of being an outstanding delegate. My committee was the UNICEF and the problem being discussed was therapeutic abortion. This experience made me become a more analytical person since, I had to be able to consider each pont of view of the other countries present in the debate. In my case, Nicaragua does not support abortion, so I had to defend this perspective and avoid taking the topic personal. I did a good job at this which was reflected in my position paper, which made me win a certificate. Moreover, I believe that this events are essential for students because they are able to create viable arguments and resolutions that take into account the situation of other countries in order to make it work. Some challenges that I had were that at first, since I did not know anyone in the committee I felt scared of speaking but it was not a problem later on when I made some friends and gained confidence. I am now more prepared for next year, and know techniques that will help me be an outstanding delegate.
