Cindy – Journal Entry October 6th, 2019.

On october 06th I organized a beach clean up with Connect Ocean and other organizations from my community it took place in Playa Potrero, in front of a business called “Las Brisas”. We had a meeting 2 weeks ago in order to plan everything and talk about how we are going to organize events that involve communities and create a significant impact in the environment. The event started at 10:00 with a brief explanation about micro plastic from one of the volunteers and after that, people were asked to go inside the restaurant to watch a video related to the environment and our main goal which is: reduce our plastic waste. The beach clean up started at 10:30 and ended around 11:30 with games, snacks and music. I was really surprised to see how kids went with their siblings, parents and members of the community of La Paz. Also, giving the option of using a cube instead of a plastic bag was an effective way to clean up the beach since the use of plastic bags was being reduced. I truly believe that this activity made me become more hopeful by seeing initiative from young and old people of my community who came together to help our mother nature as well as socialize for some time with one another. Something that I learned today is that Youth Taking Action is a project that will be supported by many people since I am taking the responsibility of making it successful. I am glad to be working on a project like this because I am improving being open-minded since I have to work and respect other people's opinion when planning and organizing these events. In the same matter, I still need to work on being an inquirer to create original ideas in order to make bigger impacts. Finally, it can be mentioned that working with different organizations from now on, will help me become an effective communicator and caring person.
