During this week I was working with the 11th grade class and my mentor miss Martha. I decided to give my students independent time to work on the script but I was supervising the work all the time. Therefore, now I have been reading and checking what they wrote and left some comments to give them the award of “recognition” when they did a good use of vocabulary and incorporated dramatic or humoristic sentences. I also had to do some teamwork during my business class by working on a presentation with other classmates to understand and apply a motivational theory from Peter Drucker connecting it to a series called “Brooklyn 99”. Some IB skills that I put into practice were open minded and balanced since I had to organize effectively my time in order to complete assignments, supervise, work in a group and check the work as well as being able to take into account different ideas when working in a group. Some challenges I had was to be able to supervise but also work on the script for my part. So now I need to spend 1 hour revising and editing my part and leaving comments for the others. It has been really interesting to see the way students are developing their ideas with creativity. Finally, I would like to mention that the theories of motivation have helped me organize certain aspects of my way of teaching the 11th graders, yet I still need to go over the content to understand it with more depth.
