What did I learn from this activity and how did this learning (ie a change in perception) apply to me as a person? What might I do in the future? Or what might I do differently next time?
From Youth Taking Action I learned that people with different passions and interests can work united to create one project that embraces the 3 areas. I also learned how teamwork with people with different ways of solving problems and organization can provide essential knowledge and development for oneself. I learned this through several meetings with my team when organizing campaigns or supporting projects from our communities. In this quality time spent, we got to listen and find ways to make sure each other’s ideas were incorporated to the specific activity being discussed. Some obstacles during this process where the time each one of us had and the things we had to do besides our project. Yet we always managed to make an effort to reunite for at least 15 minutes since it was essential the presence of each member. In this way, we improved our IB skills of being balanced since we kept up with our responsibilities effectively. This learning experience can be applied to myself since I realized that I need to always embrace the opinion and ideas of theirs while keeping my personal opinion as well. In other words, I learned how to respect the opinions of others while holding into mine, yet having new points of views. This can be useful in future team projects that I encounter. On the other hand, from the cultural exchange I learned the importance of flexibility and adaptability. Amanda and I have gone through unexpected changes in this project, but she has taught me how to remain positive and moving forward by adapting to these changes instead of letting them get away with our hopes of accomplishing our goal. This has been done through constant communication and emotional support from each other one. This has brought us closer and has made us understand each other way better. This learning experience can be applied to me since it taught me how to open to people that will help me grow to face new challenges. This has also developed my IB skill of risk-taker since I have been able to confront obstacles with confidence and determination. Something I would do differently next time is the way we organize projects. During our CAS experience, most of our activities and campaigns were spontaneous, but I believe that it would have been better to have a schedule with activities for each month. This schedule would have been made with more time before its execution, to make sure we had a solid plan and time to promote and develop it correctly. Therefore, next time I would organize myself better by having a document with a schedule with activities for each month to hold to.
