Cindy – October 2020, Journal Entry #43
A few weeks ago I was informed that a sea turtle arrived to Playa Penca in order to leave her eggs. Ever since, I started planning with my friend Fabian a way to keep them safe from cars entering the beach. Yet, there was something that we did not take into consideration, which was protecting the eggs from individuals that usually consume them along with alcohol. We already had a plan of putting a small fence around the place were eggs were placed to stop cars from going further into the beach. We had also planned along with other neighbors to take turns of vigilance during the day to check in the eggs. Nevertheless, this was meaningless since the eggs were taken away with shovels by nearby individuals. Some IB skills I put into practice where open minded and balanced. An obstacle was dealing with cars disrespecting the Costa Rican law that prohibits them from entering the beach and individuals that were interested in the eggs for personal reasons.
