The Town Flippers hosted a Beach Potluck on May 24th. The planning was done during our regular meeting and then the boys went home and discussed the event with their parents. Oliver found the grill in the garage but didn't share the picture with the group. Ileana, Oliver's mom, realized the the grill might be a little small for the event and made some calls to other people in the neighborhood to find a grill that would be large enough for the event. Allyson was going to PriceSmart and offered to buy the food for the event at the discount store. Nate created a flyer that told the community about the event - when and where - and that salads and deserts were needed. And the event was in motion!
The TownFlippers provided the protein for the event. They had hamburgers, chicken kabobs, hot dogs and brats. They also provided water. We spent about $125 on food. The grill needed to warm up, we needed to set out the chairs, tables, condiments and put up the tent. We also had to discuss what the boys were going to say and do at the event. So, we all got together at 2pm. We talked and made plans and hung out. They were excited, motivated, on time and ready to go!
People started arriving and the Andy, Nate's dad, and the boys started grilling! Salads and deserts were on the table - some of the cookies were eaten before the meat was cooked! People hung out, new families were introduced, young people (in their 20s) met each other and everyone had a really great time. The event lasted from 4 - 6:30. About 60 people showed up and added to the event.
The boys spoke about their project as you can see in their video. The community celebrated them and spoke of how they loved the event and maybe it should happen more often.
It was a great event - there was a blog written about it and you can see more pictures on the site.
We received such great feedback from everyone and it was our most successful event! Now on to the next one!
