The value of Canopy Pinilla for me is being able to help other teenagers engage with their emotions and cope with them in a healthy and fun way instead of closing off. I have realized that anytime I am having trouble completing work due to mental block, stress, friend/family issues the best thing to do in order to cope and help is some kind of activity that involves adrenaline. The release of adrenaline helps increase your mental concentration. It doesn’t take the pain away, rather it distracts you from the sensation of it. An adrenaline rush can heighten your abilities, making you feel invincible. This process is meant to help you overcome the situation that is causing your extreme stress. This may trigger the release of the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin, which are feel-good hormones produced in the brain. These hormones help combat stress, anxiety, and depression.

Adrenaline makes your heart beat faster and your lungs breathe more efficiently. It causes the blood vessels to send more blood to the brain and muscles, increases your blood pressure, makes your brain more alert, and raises sugar levels in the blood to give you energy. Therefore Canopy Therapy is a great way to take a break from school and come back even more focused and unstressed!!

3 reasons teens have anxiety nowadays

    • Body looks and feels
  • External environment
  • School (school work and getting overwhelmed)
  • High Expectations
  • Hormones
  • Brain Development
  • Parental Disapproval
  • Peer Pressure (Drinking and Drug Use)

Being able to demonstrate skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively is greatly important when it comes to being successful in CAS. CAS is all about learning what your strengths and weaknesses are, how to use them to your advantage. And at the same time create a positive change/impact in your community. I am meeting other high schoolers of La Paz that are struggling with stress management. By helping them de stress, and creating a safe space for them to go to, they will be able to focus more on their school work and therefore have better grades. They are greatly important in my project due to the fact that without them we wouldn’t have a project since it consists of student participation. Not only is our goal to create a fun, interactive and safe environment for students. But also see how our project will better both their school and personal life. Who likes to be stressed and angry anyways??

Being able to consider the ethics of my choices and actions is an important skill to be able to make good decisions and be successful, both in CAS and life. My project promotes development in both my character and others. I don’t usually love working with other kids since I am more of an adult person myself. However, this project will push me to be more interactive and open with other teenagers ges. It will be interesting to see how I will balance working with my friends in both a professional and friendly way. Many people say to never mix family or friends with business. However, I believe that Shana and I will have a great time and balance each other out. We are also not scared to call each other out and push each other to be better so therefore I believe that our project will be successful and my character will develop for the best.

What are the strengths that I am using in my project planning today? How am i using them-be specific.

My strengths include Honesty, Social, Thoughtful, and independent. Honesty is always great to have when helping the community and creating a business or project, because who wants to be lied to? I am always honest with Shana about ways that we could improve, things to work on, and what we are doing well on. Since I am a naturally social person and dont have issues with public speaking, I don’t think I will have issues when it comes to promoting our CAS project, talking to adults, and helping other teenagers ges. Being thoughtful is also a good strength to have since we will be working with other students that are struggling with their stress. They wouldn’t want to talk or be around someone who isn’t thoughtful and treats them poorly. It is always important to create connections with people, especially when you are working towards helping them. And finally it is always good to be independent because you never know if someone will always be there for you or not. And people tend to feel safe and express themselves to confident and independent people.
