Día de las Mascaradas!
Today the event that I have been organizing for half a trimester took place. I was super excited for the event to happen because I have put so much hard work into it. The process of making this event was super demanding and time consuming. For about 2 months, I have been organizing meetings for the event and planning everything out with my partner. In this 2 months, I learned what it is like to work with people that are really different than me and have different working abilities. It was a challenge and some days I didn't enjoy it as much as I wished I did but the rest of the days, I felt powerful. I learned that I have to distribute the work more often because many times I want to have everything under my control and I exclude others. Since I like to complete things fast, many times I forget that I am working with someone else, therefore I don't let them do the work and create unnecessary stress. I am proud that I didn't give up because multiple times I feel like quitting and not organizing the event, this taught me that I am a hardworking person and that I don't let things get on my way. I learned from this experience that I am a determined person when I want something to happen. The members of Students Sponsoring Students helped me alot and I am so thankful I had such amazing people working beside me for the same goal. Today I woke up really anxious because I was scared that the event would be a failure, I was scared that the food wouldn't arrive, that the people running a game station would show up, that no one would come, etc.
Through the weeks when we organized it, we all worked really hard and we were determined to make this event the best. The event started at 5:30 and it ended at 7:30. I was really happy that my classmates helped me decorate the school for the event instead of having business class, this really demonstrated the supportive classmates that I am lucky to have and it showed me that helping each other out in any possible way can make a big change. IB is really hard, and having to plan an event to fundraise money for the scholarship fund was event harder. This past couple months I have acquired new abilities, such as being more organized and open minded. I became more organized because I had to record everything we were doing in the meetings so that the day of the event it wouldn't be a mess. On the other hand, I became more open minded because I had to listen to the ideas of the members and I had to follow the recommendations of my mentors.
At the end of the day, everybody was super impressed at how the event turned out, we were able to fundraise about 1,000 dollars! This has been the most money SSS has fundraised in an event and this really gave me pride to know that all the hard work put into a couple of months really gave the results Stacy and I wanted. As a CAS student now I feel more motivated to organize events and I am looking forward to helping the scholarship students of La Paz. I hope that with the money fundraised I can help individuals of the community that really need my help and I hope that they can recognize the dedication that Stacy and I are putting into this project. I feel overwhelmed with happiness and even tho I had my ups and downs with Stacy I feel lucky to have her as my partner.
