Dodgeball Tournament – CATA GDVC

21/2/2020 Today was the Dodgeball Tournament that SSS organized for the We Are Costa Rica week. This is a week where the community comes together and plans events to fundraise money for the scholarship program at La Paz. This year Stacy and I had the opportunity to host an event for the Chirripo and Tenorio community. We decided to do a Dodgeball Tournament since I have experience organizing these types of events. Dodgeball is also really fun and all the students love it. For this event, we had 2 weeks to plan it and therefore it was stressful and chaotic. We weren't planning on doing anything because we thought it was only parents in charge but Mr Abel approached us and asked us to do an event that would be organized by the students. Stacy and I responded quickly and we divided the work so that it would be less complicated. I think the event was super successful and fun, we had about 8 teams playing from both campuses, the teachers were also involved in the teams! For next time, I wish Stacy and I had more time because the prize that we gave to the winners wasn't the best, and because of this, I think that we could have gotten more people involved if it was a prize that more people would have liked. Also, we had to pay for the prize with our SSS money because of the time restriction, I couldn't find businesses that would support the event. For this event, Stacy and I didn't fundraise for SSS but for the scholarship program, I think that it is important to help the scholarship program so that more students can get into La Paz and their tuition can be paid. This event was definitely a challenge because during the two weeks of the planning I had a lot of school work and exams I had to do, therefore I really had to balance and use my time efficiently. While planning for the tournament, I feel like Stacy and I had better communication and we were able to understand what strengths each one of us has and put it in practice. I believe that I am a good communicator and therefore I was in charge of talking to the teams and businesses as well as Miss Kenia and Miss Kerry. An issue that we had during the event was that many students and teachers were not in agreement with the rules and materials that we had and therefor I felt disrespected and annoyed, however, from this I was able to learn that sometimes you just have to work with the materials that you have and make the best out of it, as well as understanding that not always am I going to be able to please people and do everything at 100%, especially since I am a person that wants to make everyone happy and have everything perfect.
