So far, I have made a lot of progress with my garden! The gardeners I work with and I have been up to a lot recently and things are really starting to be put into motion, which is great. Currently, we have mustard, radishes, carrots, tomatoes, and squash plants and we have a lot more that are supposed to be coming soon. One thing that I've learned that is super interesting is that some types of plants have to be planted during certain phases of the moon. For example, we couldn't plant the mustard leaves (the big leaves you can see going along the middle of the planter in this picture) until the moon was waning, which is the phase where it's visible area is getting smaller. Isn't that fascinating? I have learned so much from the gardeners I work with and I can't wait to keep learning even more. Here are some things that we have done recently:
-All of the planters are now covered with white nets as you can see in this picture. These ensure that bugs and iguanas don't try to eat the plants, protects them from getting excess sun, and ensures that they don't get too drenched when it rains.
-We are also in the process of setting up an irrigation system which is sort of complicated but it's almost ready. Basically, we have two large tanks that connect to the gutters on our roof that collect rainwater (best for the plants), which then goes to the irrigation system (the black tubes in the picture) and then waters the plants. This will help us to water the plants more efficiently.
-Lastly, as you can see we have sticks in some of the planters. These are for the tomatoes because they need a structure that they can grow on to keep them balanced and stable.
Overall, a lot of progress has been made recently and I am very excited about it. The plants are getting huge! I can't wait to see what kind of plants we get next.
