Near this shore, I discovered two surf stores. Frijoles Locos is a surf shop that sells brand new surfboards. I bought a new board there for twice the price I paid in Florida. Matos, a smaller establishment, has flaking paint on the walls and a creaky entrance. I got up the guts to walk inside and look at their display after gradually improving my Spanish. Under a sign that read “For Rent $6,” old, battered surfboards sat. The difference between two shops was obvious: one sold beat-up surfboards to anyone, while the other sold high-quality surfboards to a select group of people.
