For my final product of this project, I hope to have my own unique and perfectly moist vanilla cake recipe that I can use for the rest of my life. In the picture above you can see one of my earlier creations, this is not exactly what the final cake will look like, but here you can get an idea of size, and basic decorations. My expectations for this project are high, I believe this is something I am completely capable of, and I believe through hard work I can accomplish it. The most important objectives for me are to be able to learn how to develop recipes, and understand that process. To be able to have more experience in my kitchen with no exact guide and to be able to use my instincts that I have built up over the years.
So how am I going to accomplish this? I will start by researching how the development of recipes work. I will watch videos, and read articles, I will take notes on what works, what doesn't work, what to look out for and what to remember. Once I feel I have a solid base on recipe development, I will get started in the kitchen! My first attempt will not work out. I know this in advance, and that's okay. Once I sample the cake, I will determine what needs to be changed, and try it again! I'll be taking notes of my process, and recipe. Once I bake a batch of cake, sample it, determine what needs to be changed, and adjust my recipe, I will try it again! And again. And again. Until it's perfect :)
But what will make my cake different from others? What am I striving for that I don't already have by simply looking up "vanilla cake?" I've been baking for years now, and almost from the beginning, I found an amazing chocolate cake recipe. I have never changed recipes, and I never will. This chocolate cake is what I'm known for, it's my favorite, it's my dads favorite, it's just so good! So moist and so chocolatey. But I do not have anything remotely similar to this for my vanilla cake. I have tried tons of different recipes, researching what makes a vanilla cake better and finding recipes with better ratings. But still, no vanilla cake has ever matched the moist and delicious crumb of my chocolate cake. And I'm convinced it has nothing to do with flavor. SO, instead of giving up and settling for the best I could find, why not make my own?
