How do you make a difference in your community?
The difference I’m making in my community is that I’m helping kids who dont have easy access to a pool to learn how to be safe in the water, usually. I’m mostly focused on low-income people because usually, many of them grow up without a pool at home or at their schools to learn to swim.
What are you doing to create change?
I am helping to teach the kids from CEPIA that want to learn to swim, by taking my WSI classes I am learning skills that will help me teach these kids how to be safe in the water and how to swim without feeling like they need floaties or feeling scared.
Can you show the process that you are going through to do that? What are the obstacles? How are you getting through them?
The process I am going through includes taking WSI classes with ConnectOcean, getting homework from my instructor to make sure I understand what we are learning in class, practicing how to plan a class, practicing how to teach a whole class on my own, and counting hours by going to swimming classes to watch the instructor do his work.
How does your project demonstrate engagement in global significance?
The idea for my project shows global significance because it is working to find a solution to help low-income people get the opportunity to learn to swim and to have access to a pool, which usually they dont have. This is a problem that takes place in many different countries in the world, not just here in C.R. and the effect this problem has in our world is having entire generations of people who grew up not knowing how to swim.
