Growing the Fellowship

Gandalf: "I am looking for someone to share in an adventure that I am arranging, and it’s very difficult to find anyone."
Bilbo: "I should think so—in these parts! We are plain quiet folk and have no use for adventures. Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things! Make you late for dinner! I can’t think what anybody sees in them …"
Gandalf: "You’ll have a tale or two to tell when you come back."
Bilbo: "You can promise that I’ll come back?”
Gandalf: "No. And if you do, you will not be the same."

WHERE TO BEGIN
With so many distractions in the world, finding like-minded individuals willing to set aside their comfort to go on an adventure like this (a school farm) is difficult. It will require a powerful and fully committed fellowship working together to see it to its completion. We're looking to find individuals (locally and internationally) willing to build such a fellowship with us.

THE SCHOOL FARM
In order to demonstrate the impact a school farm can have on the health of the students and community (enhancing school lunch programs), we will need to expand and grow the School Farm production capabilities and programs. This will require more land to grow the crops, more support and buy-in from the school district leadership and teachers to insure its future, and the additional funding needed to fully develop the soil, irrigation capabilities, and power for the greenhouse operations. To achieve the above, we will need to continue proving the value and success of the school farm to the district, to the students, and to the community by what we do today.

THE GROWING A FUTURE FELLOWSHIP
Building and maintaining a fellowship that is willing to go on an adventure of this magnitude is not for the faint of heart, but is essential if the fellowship is to succeed. Like Gandalf, creating this fellowship of the school farms starts with knowing who you want to ask to join you, and then convincing them that the journey and adventure that awaits will be worth the risk. Our goal will be to begin reaching out to the existing school farms (big or small, local or international) and asking them to also play a part in this adventure with us. We are starting with The Shire and will welcome any and all who want to join us. We can't promise anything other than like Gandalf's commitment to Frodo that you will be changed (and hopefully many others) when the journey is completed. Come and join us!
