This week has been challenging as I didn’t get to work with my own timing. Because this week was about training and development I had to do an interview with Tanya and it took longer than what I expected. I sent the interview on Tuesday, May 5, and received a response on Tuesday, May 12 in the afternoon. In this process, I had to adjust and change my working technique as I had to depend on someone else. This week, I learned that my main role is helping Tanya with communication, marketing, and operations. As I communicate with local businesses for more donations to make the canastas bigger, I have to be in charge of marketing well what the Canastas Basicas are and understand deeply all the details and information in regards to this project. I have to be in charge of operations as I am going to be recollecting donations and making sure they are delivered to school on the assigned days. As I learn about my responsibilities in the organization, I am aware that I have to take risks when asking for donations because not everyone is going to want to help but asking for help is worth the try.
Next week I am going to start to ask local businesses and I first want to start asking people who I am familiar with as I already have their contacts and it will facilitate me into doing this new job. This requires me to be a thinker and explore all possible contacts that my family has. As the coronavirus situation doesn’t seem to progress into positive outcomes, I have to be familiarized with bettering my communication skills through the use of email (as it is what Tanya uses most) and learning how to work from home yet still work at an exemplary level.
I won’t be practicing on the job training as I don’t get to do my job in the workplace. I won’t be able to learn by doing the method of planning as Tanya is not going to teach me how to go into businesses and ask for help. This is why I am required to be a risk-taker. Off the job training however is when employees are taken away from their place of work to be trained, I don’t think this will be required when helping in this organization as I am not going to be given opportunities to visit other nonprofits organizations and improve my job performance.
Throughout this week, I learned about cognitive training as I had to depend on my work and progress on Tanya, I learned about self-control and time management skills. Self-control because I was being influenced by a factor that I could not control, which was the disponibility of Tanya to answer the interview questions, and therefore I had to remain calm, especially because I like to get things done fast! I learned how to be patient and adapt to other people’s ways of working and manage my time so that by the time that Tanya sent me the interviews, I wasn’t filled with work.
I was able to practice behavioral training as I got to develop behavioral changes in the workforce, which is my house. Because in the Soft skills assignment I got to explore a little bit more the emotions that my audience might be feeling (the scholarship families), I got to develop motivation towards helping them feel better and not stressed. I am currently stable, and learning about this feeling that they are experiencing gives me the motivation to make people feel better about themselves and transmit the vibes that I am so fulfilled by. In some way, I am learning how to resolve a conflict by exploring more in detail how people feel and what is making them feel this way.
