Journal Entry Geyra

My goals are to change the lives of many, to give hope to people who have already lost it. I would like to liken this project to planting a seed in the hearts of many people and when it grows and bears fruit that these same people will follow the chain of helping others. I want to feel happy through small gestures of help and let the people of the lower social classes know that they are not forgotten. To show them that they have the potential and we offer them the help so that they can be the change in their family and those around them. I plan to change the community around me with my partner Emily. We want to provide families in extreme poverty with a basic food basket and even for hygiene, it can also include new clothing. For families who have a member with the ability to study, we would like to join forces with LINA to provide a course of study. But we also want to be available for whatever they need, be it drinking water or anything like that. It is very important to me because I have been a very blessed young woman and sometimes I think about those who do not receive the help or support that I have, as I come from a humble family, I have no wealth but I am aware that I can help, with small actions we can make a big impact. I have met people with limited resources in which my desire to help and not being able to make me angry and finally with this project I have been presented with the opportunity and I have the faith that it will be successful. Since I was a little girl I have grown up in a Christian home and I have learned that as a commandment I must help and love ALL those around me and it is something that is in my heart, a duty not out of obligation, but out of love. This experience will allow me to change my way of thinking, I am still not sure how, but I know that I will understand the difficulty of life and that there are cases in which we can not do anything, no doubt I will develop patience, maturity, greater responsibility, humility, perseverance, creativity etc…. I can convince myself that I am a good candidate for a university or further work experience because I am a determined, responsible, humble, respectful, generous, loyal, integrated, disciplined, positive, realistic, honest and hard-working person. I have creativity to make fundraisers, I am insistent and convincing to gain support. My way of thinking is mature and wise, because no matter how long or who I am going to be in life I always keep in mind where I come from.

Covid19 has affected middle class people and tremendously lower class families. The basic food basket has become more difficult to obtain and the deaths of loved ones cause too much instability. Many have lost their jobs, the main source of income for households no longer has jobs. Social injustices such as layoffs without severance pay, children, young people are forced to drop out of school to help their families in one way or another, labor exploitation is increasing and instead of helping many take advantage of the needs of others. Poverty has increased even when associations of people help. CAS will allow me to grow personally by allowing me to understand myself and others better, understanding the situation of others will allow me to put the needs of others before my own, helping me to grow personally. My motivation to help others is my empathy and altruism and to see the lives of others changed. The CAS project will give a second chance to young people who dropped out of school, help the unemployed or exploited to provide food or other supplements to their families when they are unable to.
