journal entry sept/03/2020

1. What is the meaning of CAS to you? Why is it something that is required by the IB and the MEP? Why did you choose to do your project? What resources are available to help you succeed?

CAS is a project to help you have a good impact on any community. Also to CAS is a way to show your strengths and weaknesses and implement them in your projects. It’s important because a lot of colleges want to see your skills and your creativity and this is a good way of demonstrating it. I chose my project because it’s based on helping my local community and my main goal is to help the community I grew up in and to take care of it as much as possible.

2. How has CAS changed because of COVID? Or has it? Have the community’s needs changed? If so, how? If not, explain.

CAS has changed in a positive way but also negative ways because now we are able to see people’s needs and ways that we can help them but also some of our projects can’t start because we need to talk to people or interact with others in ways that aren’t available for us now. The community’s needs have changed because now a lot of people don’t have jobs, food for their family, or good income.

3. Evaluate the project that you are doing. Talk about it with your group. Have your group give you feedback and insight. Does it still make sense now? If not, why? Is so, how?

My group members said that my project makes sense in some aspects now but it would be very difficult to continue some of my plans that involve multiple amounts of people because of how we are living now. I could still continue with some of my ideas that are not so risky for other’s health or that disobey the policies.

4. What are the first steps? How are you going to show progress by next week? How will you manage my time?
I will go over my ideas that I had planned and see which ones might work best for now. I will also contact the BAE team and see what they have a plan and how I can help them. I will manage my time by having good communication and having everything clear about the ideas.

5. How can you make the time that you are doing CAS, time that is not in front of a screen? Is that possible with your project? Is there something that you can create without much screen time? And how do we document it?

I want to go around my community at least for a little and just look at what people really need and how Bandera Azul can contribute to those needs. This will give my ideas and ways to help my community now with this situation that they’re going through. It is isn’t so possible with my project because it involves more the community and the people in it.
