During these months our lives have changed dramatically. This is why I have had a lot of time to think about how I can adapt my CAS project to the new security measures implemented by the government due to the coronavirus. I decided to meet with my teammates from the Youth Taking Action group to be able to have good communication and decide together what are our next goals with the project.
As we speak, we develop different ideas of how we can help our community during these months. First of all we want to raise funds to make a small donation to Barbara’s vet, since due to the coronavirus she does not have funds to take care of all the animals. Likewise, we want to be able to help her by giving her our time and helping take care of some animals during voluntary hours. In the same way, we hope to organize a cleaning on the beach, where the security protocol is implemented to be able to clean a beach in our community. We plan to raise funds for the veterinaria by selling food and making home deliveries so that people do not have to leave their homes.
Finally, we were thinking about a way in which we can help our community online, which is why I had the idea of creating an Instagram page where we can fight against femicides in Costa Rica. During these months of quarantine we have observed that the percentages of femicides have increased very quickly, that is why as girls and IB students we want to make a change in the community. Creating a page where the girls of our communities can share their stories where they have felt attacked in some way. I think that we should inform people about how serious this situation is and how it is influencing our country, by sharing educational information that will be able to help orient victims of abuse and raise awareness in the community
