Which quote resonates with your reasoning for choosing your CAS project? Explain.
“People protect what they love” – Jaques Cousteau
This quote resonates with my reasoning for why I choose my CAS project because my project connects with swimming and in the last 2 years swimming has become a sport that I love and enjoy doing a lot and I am protecting it by increasing my knowledge of the techniques I can use to swim better and by learning how to teach other people to share with them what I love.
Which quote resonates with you now that you have undertaken some aspects of your CAS project? Explain
“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone”
This quote resonates with the overtaken aspects of my project because starting to work with professionals like the people from Connect Ocean was nerve-racking for me in the beginning since I have never worked with professionals before, also my WSI classes were a new type of “subject” for me and assisting them and learning about how to teach kids to swim was complicated at the beginning because when I started, I didn’t feel completely comfortable working with only adults since I was the only teen in the group and learning how to interact with kids was also a new thing for me since I’m not used to interacting with younger people. These aspects involved be leaving my comfort zone to become more social with other people and learning to try new ideas that I have never tried before
How do you feel about the class at this moment? Explain
So far I feel proud of the work I have done at the moment. After my first project idea failed, I’m happy that I actually got to start this swimming project and I am already on track to get my swimming instructor certificate. I am very happy with the way my plan I had for the first school trimester went, I got to learn techniques on how to teach kids to get in the water and feel comfortable while I also got to practice these learned techniques with Ester. When I first started swimming with her back in October, she didn’t feel 100% comfortable swimming without a floating noodle and by the second week of December not only did she feel comfortable swimming without a floating noodle, but she had also learned how to float on her own and how to fully submerge herself underwater to pick up rocks from the bottom of the pool. This showed how she grew her trust in me since she wouldn’t be afraid to try the new exercises I gave her weekly and it made me realize the growth I had in my confidence and knowledge on swimming, I was able to teach a kid to learn how to swim in 2 months just with the techniques learned in my classes and with no past experience.
Do the quotes inspire you to do things differently? Why or why not?
These quotes help me to keep trying new things that I usually would not try, to find what I really like, and to learn to keep practicing/ doing them without letting others stop me from doing what I really like and enjoy.
