Marko and I had a call yesterday while he was with his mom - driving to his soccer game and I was in Spain working to move my kids out of their apartment. It was a great interlude for me. :)
We discussed the communities that Marko is involved in. The list is above. He just finished his 8th grade year and is ready to start high school soccer practice today! He is a part of the school community and classes but he doesn't know those communities yet. The homework he has is to look around in his communities - and see if there is anything that he believes could be changed for the better - or groups that might need more support. We talked about creating a survey to see if his idea for a small soccer pitch in his town to get people together to play soccer - young kids, families and teenagers could be a good idea for a project. We will work on that next week.
We also started talking about a personal mission statement. We discussed some of the famous mission statements from large companies. Marko definitely likes mission statements that explicitly tells the audience what they do. Mission statements like Patagonia's - we will create no harm - are interesting and might make people look twice but doesn't really capture the scope of the company - but we will continue to discuss elements of a mission statement and he will create his next week.
It was a good call - that was again too short.
