Planning and initiating

What are the goals of my activity? Did I meet them? What was the feedback I received from my activity? Our goal for the community was to help our studio put on a show for the dancers to perform after Covid-19 prevented that from happening. Another goal that we had was to choreograph dance pieces and offer dancers of all ages from our studio to learn from us and perform those pieces. The goals were met and the community loved it. After the performance you could tell that it was something the community needed. There were several people complimenting us on our work and the dancers who were a part of it were super grateful. How did I feel about the planning process? What could I have done differently? What did I do well? The planning process for this show wasn't our full responsibility as we were only assisting our studio in putting it on. Nevertheless we did have to help our mentor and teacher Gaby with the steps along the way and we still had to plan the rehearsals for our dances. Something that we could have done differently was communicate with our dancers and their parents with a little more notice before we held each practice. I saw this especially with Ava and Alexa because they rehearsed on the weekends and there wasn't a set schedule. In my case I met with my dancer Luna every Thursday at 4:30 which allowed consistency and made sure that we were not missing any weeks. This all leads back to communication and making sure that the people we are working with are well informed. What is the purpose of my activity? Why did I choose this activity, this location, the date and time? Ava, Alexa and I are helping with the dance recital to help inspire performing arts in the studio. We each choreographed a dance for the show so that the dancers could learn from someone new and from their peers. And we choreographed a trio together to inspire the younger dancers in the studio and to express our creativity as dancers. The show was put on at the end of the year to showcase all that the dancers have learned throughout the year. Our stage was set up outside of the dance studio in the parking lot. It was an amazing setup of one large center stage and four smaller ones. Each dance utilized the stages in a different way and it allowed the audience to be immersed in the dancing. Who have I had to work with while planning the activity? How did they impact the activity? To set up rehearsals we had to work with the dancers and their parents. Each dancer that we worked with was excited to participate and really took the chance to learn. In my case Luna and I not only worked on the choreography but on the way that she expressed herself and how she could connect with the music and dance with it instead of on top of it. After the show I could tell that Luna had learned a lot from the piece that I choreographed for her and it was an experience that will help her grow as a dancer. The three of us also helped Gaby set up the chairs the day of, create the online play bill and watch over the younger dancers during the first show. So in a way the three of us helped Gaby with her planning process and made sure that she didn't have to worry about everything while planning the show. What challenges do I face when working with others? How do I deal with those challenges? For me it is super easy to work with Ava as she is my twin sister and we live together. At times I felt like we needed more communication with Alexa or I could not understand what Alexa was thinking but it all worked out in the end and there were no real conflicts. Working with Gaby was amazing, she is truly the best person to work with as she is always willing to help and offer ideas for our project. I am grateful to have her as our mentor and I am super excited to see what project we come up with next.
