Project Kickoff
On Saturday February 12 we got to start the Cepia project and the juniors solos. We started off at 8:30 teaching the kids that came from Cepia and then at 9:30 the girl that I am teaching a solo to came for her first rehearsal. Both the class and the rehearsal were super successful. I'm happy that they went so well, especially because I had done a lot of preparation for them in the weeks before. The kids from Cepia were super excited to learn from us and had an amazing time dancing at the studio. And the girl that I taught the solo to put 100% effort into the practice and we both had a fun time putting together the solo. I think she really liked what I had put together. Although the start to the project was extremely successful there were still some challenges that I had to overcome. The first one, which is also what I was most nervous about, was teaching a class entirely in spanish. This challenge was mostly mental. I had never taught a class fully in Spanish and it made me super tense and stressed about doing it for the first time. In the end though it was not as difficult as I thought I knew all the vocabulary for the dance steps and even if I did mess up somewhere the kids did not seem to mind. After having the experience of teaching a class in Spanish I was grateful for the opportunity and am ready to improve my skills in the upcoming weeks. The other challenge that I faced was teaching the solo. This wasn't anything big I just found myself at times not getting the movements across in the most effective way for the dancer that I was teaching and that made it challenging at times for both of it, but this was not a challenge that I didn't overcome and by the end of the solo she had the movement down. Overall the morning was a great experience for me and for the girls that took the classes. I'm excited to continue to teach all of them in the upcoming weeks.
