Reflection 19th – 26th 2020

MAJOR GLOBAL HEALTH ISSUES

This global issue that we are currently living in is the pandemic. We have been living in it for the past year. This has created a major influence in our lives that most of us had never experienced. This global pandemic has a connection with my CAS project because it was based on traveling to another country and giving these students the opportunity to experience a new culture. This affects us in a negative way because we are forced to obey the policies that go against some of our ideas, for example, meeting with our team to come up with a clear plan and assignments for everyone. Also having the freedom that helps us interact with those students that will have this opportunity. Social media is being used to spread the word in order to end this issue. This issue is changing our world in a macro way because it is growing on a large scale that we never imagined it would.

EMPLOYMENT ISSUE

Employment issue is mainly affected due to the global pandemic that is going on currently. Due to the quarantine, many businesses and organizations were obligated to shut down this cause a lot of disemployment because the business didn’t have any income to pay their employees. My project connects to the issue because we were affected by not being able to collect the amount of money necessary to make our project successful. It also connects to our project because our society and communities are not economically stable which creates an effect in everyone’s life. This issue macro at the beginning but now it has developed into a micro issue thanks to the government taking away the laws that prevent them from working.

NO SOCIALIZATION

Socialization was never an issue but due to the pandemic, we are now forced to keep our distance from others and not have that freedom of interaction. Socialization is crucial for human beings in order to get to know each other and have the opportunity to meet new people. This connects directly with our project because that is one of the main issues that is affecting us right now. Our project needs for our team to at least have some interaction with each other to develop our ideas. It is also necessary to have some socializing with the students that are going on our trip. This is currently a macro issue due to the fact that we can’t socialize with one another.

TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS

Travel restrictions were a major issue for those people that love to travel or some that their lives depend on traveling a lot. The restriction created a major drop in our tourism especially in those countries that depend on tourism like Costa Rica. According to a local media source called TicoTimes, “The Costa Rican Hotel Association (CCH) says visitors have canceled more than 8,000 hotel nights — the majority in April, May, and June.” This affects the economy in the country on a large scale. It has a huge connection and impact on our project because if we are able to collect the right amount of money we need the travel restrictions to be taken. Our whole project is based on traveling and getting to learn about a new culture and ways of living.

NO SCHOOL

Schools throughout the world had to close to prevent the large spreading of the virus. This was a big change for the students that had never had an online class. It also created issues for those students that didn’t have the necessary resources for online schooling. This issue connected to our Boston project because school was an easy way for my team to meet and talk logistics about our plans. The school helps us with our learning and development of new ideas but unfortunately, the online school doesn’t allow us to have that thinking because we are just looking at a screen all day.

All these issues were caused due to a major pandemic that was happening. We can see how one issue can cause multiple other ones that impact our lives in many ways.
